May 2025 - Alex Riopel (PGY5, Radiation Oncology)

Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce Alex Riopel, a PGY5 in Radiation Oncology, is our latest Resident of the Month.
 
Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.

Dr. Riopel was nominated by his peers.

"Alex always has a great attitude ready to help more junior residents," his nomination reads. "His dedication in teaching shines through, often going above and beyond preparing presentation for teaching sessions.

"He also acts as the program father, encouraging all of us to make financially responsible decisions (he bikes to work every day, no matter the weather). We will miss him in the resident room but are excited to learn more from him as he moves into a staff physician roll."

As the winner of this award, Dr. Riopel will receive a $100 gift card.

April 2025 - Todd Dow (PGY5, Plastic Surgery)

Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce Todd Dow, a PGY5 in Plastic Surgery, is our latest Resident of the Month.
 
Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.

Dr. Dow was nominated by his peers, in recognition of his exemplary leadership, commitment to medical education, and dedication to supporting his colleagues.

"As a Senior Resident within the Division of Plastic Surgery, Todd has consistently demonstrated outstanding mentorship, fostering a supportive and balanced environment for his co-residents," his nomination reads. "Todd has excelled in leadership, contributing significantly to several academic committees. In these positions, he has been a strong advocate for residents, working to enhance the residency experience and improve medical education. Todd has played a key role in implementing programs that support learners and ensure the next generation of practitioners receives the best possible training."

In addition to his leadership and support, his nomination outlines a resident with a passion for research and mentorship.

"Todd’s commitment to research is equally impressive, with over 25 peer-reviewed articles published during his residency. Despite his demanding clinical schedule, he has consistently mentored junior residents and medical students, offering guidance both in clinical settings and academic pursuits. Todd’s unwavering dedication to patient care, medical education, and the well-being of his colleagues makes him an exemplary candidate for this award."

March 2025 - Katie Marriott (Physical Medicine & Rehab)

Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce Katie Marriott, a PGY4 in Physical Medicine and Rehab, is our latest Resident of the Month.
 
Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.

Dr. Marriott was nominated by her peers.

"Katie has been an exceptional co-resident," her nomination reads. "She is a huge support and checks in frequently with her peers. It is apparent that she cares deeply. She listens, offers encouragement, and is always there to bounce ideas off and problem solve with."

She has also enjoyed a successful stint as program chief.

"As chief, she goes out of her way to try to ensure everyone’s success and is a strong advocate for residents. Outside of work, you may see her in the park taking her cats for a walk."

As the winner of this award, Dr. Marriott will receive a $100 gift card.

February 2025 - Dhuha Alajmi (PGY2, Pediatrics)

Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce Dhuha Alajmi, a PGY2 in Pediatrics, is our latest Resident of the Month.
 
Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.

Dr. Alajmi was nominated by her peers.

"She is the current president of the Association of Kuwaiti doctors, and has been a major source of support for many IMG residents that come to Dalhousie," her nomination says. "She has a very positive attitude, and is enthusiastic about sharing her culture and identity from Kuwait. Most impressively, she also was awarded the NRP research grant for her project in the NICU.

"Despite all the commitments and work, Dhuha still has time to enjoy with friends and colleagues to have fun, unwind, and keep morale high. It would be an understatement to say that Dhuha is the pride of Kuwait University, and a true leader and friend to all IMG residents. We are so lucky to have someone as special as Dhuha."

January 2025 - Alexandre Landry (PGY2, Internal Medicine - Moncton)

Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce Alexandre Landry, a PGY2 in Internal Medicine (Moncton), is our latest Resident of the Month.
 
Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.

Dr. Landry was nominated by his peers.

"Dr Landry is a shining example of leadership at work, as well as outside of work," his nomination says. "He immediately takes trainees under his wing, ensuring that they feel supported and properly oriented."

His nomination goes on to highlight the work-life balance that can be struggle for all residents.

"He balances home life with work life, giving his all to both. When one is hard, the other provides respite. He exemplifies how a resident physician can learn on the job as well as at home."
