February 2022 - Luke Edgar (PGY2, Family Med/Emergency Med Saint John)

Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce Luke Edgar, a PGY2 in Family Medicine Integrated Emergency Medicine Saint John, is our latest Resident of the Month.

Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.

Dr. Edgar was nominated by his peers.

"From the beginning of residency he has demonstrated a sincere concern for the well-being of his fellow residents through investments of time and effort," his nomination says. "He goes out of his way to make others feel supported – including personal deliveries of cookies and thoughtful gifts to his co-residents, and hosting get-togethers. This year he has taken on the role of chief-resident for the iFMEM program and is proving to be a thoughtful and invested leader."

The nomination describes Dr. Edgar as a person who throws himself wholeheartedly into all he does.

"He is committed to medical excellence – pouring his heart and soul into learning and practicing medicine in the most competent way possible. He has dedicated hours to teaching others including students and co-residents, formally and informally. Yet he still finds time for self-care including running marathons, doing backwoods camping trips, and cooking delicious dinners."

As the winner of this award, Dr. Edgar will receive a $100 gift card.

Congratulations from everyone at Maritime Resident Doctors on winning this award.

January 2022 - Suzanne Boursalie (PGY3, Internal Medicine)

Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce Suzanne Boursalie, a PGY3 in Internal Medicine, is our latest Resident of the Month.

Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.

Dr. Boursalie was nominated by her peers.

"Suzanne is the internal medicine co-chief resident who recently matched to cardiology at Dalhousie," her nomination reads. "Besides advocating for the IM residents, she has been responsible for continuously re-organizing the internal medicine schedules to cover for COVID-19 related changes."

The nomination highlighted the thankless task of scheduling as worthy for honour.

"We often highlight actions that can be seen. I'm not sure many people know how she has been selflessly assigning herself to shifts that could not be filled despite studying for her Royal College Exam. At the same time, she still manages to organize the IM community events and she can always be found with chocolate or candy to distribute, which always brings a smile to our faces."

As the winner of this award, Dr. Boursalie will receive a $100 gift card.

Congratulations from everyone at Maritime Resident Doctors on winning this award.
